When someone is special to us, we love being near them and talking with them. We want to hear about what’s going on in their lives and what’s important to them, and we can’t wait to tell them all about what’s on our mind too.

How does it make you feel when someone special talks with you?

Did you know that God has been talking with people since the beginning of the Bible? You can read one of the first times God and people talked to each other in Genesis 3:8-13. That time, God came looking for Adam and called out to him.

God wants to talk to his people and hear from them too. Talking to God and listening for him is called prayer.

When people think of prayer, they often picture being at church with their heads bowed and eyes closed. Lots of people also pray before meals. These are important ways to pray. But there are so many other ways to pray too. We’ll explore more about that soon in this book.

The important thing to remember is that prayer is a conversation—talking and listening between people and God. It’s something we get to do! Isn’t it special to know that the God of the entire universe wants to hear from you?
